Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livehood Programme (EIACP) Programme Centre erstwhile Environmental Information System [ENVIS] Centre, housed at ICMR-National Institute of Occupational Health [NIOH], is sponsored by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India is working since 1984.
In the current era of urbanization and industrialization the workforce of the country is expected to increase in the diversified occupations. These occupations while one hand provide livelihood to the worker on the other hand are potential sources to diversified factors which may prove deleterious to the health of the workers. Thus there ought to be awareness and motivation in the workers to work safely at their workplaces. The EIACP centre at ICMR-NIOH is engaged in collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of Indian information related to environmental and occupational health. This information is then translated to create awareness about environmental and occupational health and safety through awareness programmes and improve working conditions through recommendations to decision makers.
The EIACP centre at ICMR-NIOH conducts capacity building initiative in environment and occupational as identified by MoEF&CC. Further, centre participate in the organization of various activities in the Mission LiFE as conceptualized by the MoEF&CC.
EIACP-NIOH is involved in publication of NEWSLETTERS on current issues related to environmental and occupational health, BIBLIOGRAPHIES on the important occupational diseases as a consolidated source of reference for budding and established researchers, monthly NIOHNEWS bulletin to keep the citizen of the country updated with respect to occupational and environmental health.
