On the Occasion of the World Environment Day 5th June 2015

      ENVIS-NIOH Centre on” ENVIRONMENT AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH “ celebrated the “World Environment Day” on 5th June ,2015 to raise awareness about the importance of a clean and healthy environment for the well being of living and non-living beings.The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care”. Today, unsustainable patterns of consumption and production lead to the continued deterioration of the global environment. World environment day is the opportunity for everyone to realize the responsibility to take care of their planet.

      The Hon’ble Dr. P.S Pandey [Assistant Director General (Education Planning & Home Science) , ICAR ,New Delhi] , Dr S.K Srivastava [Director (Acting),ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar] and Dr. Sunil Kumar [Director-in charge NIOH, Ahmedabad], inaugurated this occasion by planting the tree sapling .This was followed by an awareness programme on Occupational & Environmental Health Hazards in Sewage Treatment Plant (STP ) Workers at Pirana Sewage Treatment Plant , Behrampura. The workers were briefed on the occupational and the environmental hazards and the precautions to be taken related to their occupation by Dr. R.R.Tiwari (Scientist-E, Coordinator, ENVIS-NIOH) and Shri P.B.Doctor (Scientist-E,NIOH). There were around 60 participants who attended the programme with their Chief Scientific Officer Mr. Paresh Patel.

      ENVIS NIOH, as an awareness tool released posters (http://www.niohenvis.nic.in/posters.html) and also included an Enviroment Quiz in English, Hindi, Gujarati (http://www.niohenvis.nic.in/quiz1_eng.html) which is available on the website. Annie Soju, Programme officer , ENVIS NIOH, Ms. Prarthana Trivedi, Information Officer, ENVIS NIOH, Mr. Deepak Purohit , IT Assistant , ENVIS NIOH played important roles for the successful completion of the mission.
